We’ll introduce you to a memorable encounter with an actor who is no longer alive, but you’ll also hear from him what we spoke to him about years ago. But first, let’s learn a little about him:
Popular character actor and freedom fighter Avtar Krishna Hangal was born in 1917 in Sialkot, now in Pakistan. His parents lived in Peshawar. He spent his childhood there, from where he moved to Karachi after his father’s retirement. He was involved in theatre from a young age and played memorable roles in plays. In his early days, he also worked as a tailor. After Partition, he settled in Mumbai in 1949, when he was 32 years old. After coming to Mumbai, he joined the theatre group IPTA along with Balraj Sahni and Kaifi Azmi. He began his film career in 1966 with Vasu Bhattacharya’s film “Teesri Kasam”, when he was 50 years old.
